Process Communication Model

KINTSUGI CONSULTING

We are all capable of living and interacting positively.

However, under stress, we can become moody, nervous, or even completely disengaged, leading to misunderstandings, irritations, and conflicts.

PCM helps us understand our different personalities and preferences by observing these behaviors.

Practicing PCM means learning to adapt simply and effectively to make the most out of every conversation, in any situation, every day.

A TOOL OF CHOICE FOR DECODING HUMAN INTERACTIONS

How does it work?

PCM is distinguished by six Personality Types, which we all have within us:

  • Analyzer
  • Persister
  • Energizer
  • Promoter
  • Empathizer
  • Imaginer

Each Type has specific strengths and preferences.
We all have a different combination of these six Types within us.

4 Steps to Practicing PCM

  1. Be Aware of Your Personality
Knowing your own preferences is essential to understanding what you need and how to fulfill that need. This is how you can manage your stress and take care of yourself.
  2. Recognize Behaviors
Identifying observable behaviors allows you to understand how each person prefers to be approached.
  3. Adapt Your Communication Style
Based on what you observe, you will know what to do and say to create an authentic connection with others.
  4. Strengthen Your Relationships
Enjoy your positive interactions every day at work, in meetings, during presentations, at social events—and at home, too.

The Origins of Our Story

The Process Communication Model was developed by American clinical psychologist Dr. Taibi Kahler. An expert in transactional analysis, he observed that behaviors under stress are universal. He also identified what individuals need to thrive. Moreover, Kahler identified six personality types that we all have within us and to which we can connect. His discoveries give each of us the power to predict behaviors under stress and implement preventative strategies to bring about positive changes. Kahler’s insights have led to extensive qualitative and quantitative research, demonstrating their validity, credibility, reliability, and relevance.

From Space to the Business World
In the late 1970s, NASA’s chief psychiatrist asked Dr. Kahler to assist in selecting and training astronauts. Subsequently, Kahler founded Kahler Communication Inc., validated the 45-question survey that generates the Personality Profile, and created the Process Communication Model®. His philosophy: don’t put people in boxes but appreciate, celebrate, and leverage their differences!
